Swiss Side Athlete Profile - Christian Otto

Tue, Jun 20, 17

Christian Otto What is your favorite triathlon to participate in? Why? One of my favorite races was Schliersee Triathlon which is a classic race in the Alps. Some years ago it was for the Olympic Distanz, a European Cup and German Championships - it’s a hilly bike race with a final climb and little cross run and the finish is 500m higher as the start… , it’s a hard race. The Tyre Factor

Thu, Jun 15, 17

Swiss Side has spent a lot of time investigating tyre performance because this is extremely important.  Choosing a tyre which provides the best aerodynamic performance is a priority. Clinchers perform better than tubular tyres. The sidewall profiling on the tyre is actually very important due to a complex aeroydynamic effect called the “boundary layer transition.” According to our testing, the best aerodynamic tyre on the market right now is the Continental GP 4000s II 23c. The worst aerodynamic tyres are smooth with no sidewall tread. Clincher tubeless tyres offer lower rolling resistance than clincher tyres with tubes. This is important...

Laura Philipp - as fast as possible please!

Mon, Jun 12, 17

How much faster can you make a fast triathlete like Laura Philipp with aero optimization in the wind tunnel? May 31st 2017, after winning two Ironman 70.3 in a row, it was the day to find out. The assumption ranged from conservative to euphoric. Swiss Side aero expert Jean-Paul Ballard guessed that there are about 1-3 minutes to be saved for Laura with the right material choice, on a middle distance triathlon bike course of 90 kilometer. Laura Philipp herself estimated the improvement to be about 1 minute. Other estimates were in the 1–6 minute range. Before we even started...
