It is already a year ago, that Andi did his last half distance race.
Now he’s back and wants to prove his strength of racing 70.3 distance again.

Three weeks ago, Andi could already qualify for the Ironman World Championship, due to his result at Ironman South Africa. This weekend the major goal is the same. Also, at half distance race the qualification system has changed. Only a slot, given by winning an Ironman 70.3 race, allows to start at the 70.3 World Championship, that will take place in Nice, France later in September.

Andi recovered really good after the race in South Africa, and also the last preparations for Marbella showed a promising development. The race course in Marbella with the hilly bike part suits Andi, and he is really looking forward to the race.

The start list announces some of the world best athletes for Saturday. Short distance expert from Spain Ivan Raña and two-time Olympic Champion Alistair Brownlee want to test their strength at the half distance again. Also Chris Leiferman who ended second last year in Marbella, will toe the line again on Saturday.

Last year, Andi had a good race day in Marbella and finished the race at third position. He dominated on the bike and could also defend his lead on the run course for a long time. Only three kilometers before the finish line, he was cached by Chris Leiferman and David McNamee
