Jean-Paul Ballard heads up Swiss Side, bringing the ultimate team together to revolutionize the cycling industry with the most aerodynamic and innovative products, developed with over 50 years of Formula 1 racing experience.


CEO and co-founder of Swiss Side, Jean-Paul spent 14 years as a lead engineer in Formula 1 motor racing teams. As the Head of Concept Design for the complete F1 car project at the Sauber F1 team, Jean-Paul re-directed his career in 2014 to dedicate himself full time to his young company and brand Swiss Side.

He brings the latest technologies, top level engineering know-how and people with him to ensure the highest level for Swiss Side’s engineering capability. „We push the boundaries of design, construction, materials and aerodynamics to bring cycling wheels into a new era.


In our small team, with a diverse range consisting of over 8 nationalities from Switzerland to the USA to Australia, we are a genuinely international crew The Swiss Side team has also been handpicked to consist of like-minded, innovative, driven people from diverse industries all drawn together by a passion for cycling and our love for getting out into nature. And most of all, to have fun doing it!


Patrick Lange

Patrick Lange (32 years old from Bad Wildungen in Germany) 2017 and 2018 Ironman World Champion. He became the first athlete to break the magic 8-hour mark of the Ironman World Championship course in Kona (07h 52min 39sec). Swiss Side works closely with Patrick, to optimize his aerodynamics to make him even faster. Check out the special Project 101, that was done in collaboration with Swiss Side, Canyon and Sauber Engineering with the aim to break the 8-hour make at the 2018 World Championship race in Kona. 



Raelert brothers: Andreas Raelert

Andreas Raelert (42 years old from Rostock Germany) world record holder in the full distance Ironman triathlon from 2011- 2016, second fastest ever over the full distance, two-time Olympian and five-time Kona podium finisher. For this legendary athlete, Swiss Side put their entire Formula 1 aero know-how to use to develop the fastest triathlon time trial bike in the world, together with his bike sponsor Cube.  



Raelert brothers: Michael Raelert

Michael Raelert (38 years old from Rostock Germany) multiple 70.3 Ironman World Champion and European Champion as well as world record holder in the 70.3 Ironman since 2009. Michael provides a wealth of experience and inputs for our product development process to ensure that he gets to ride the fastest wheels on the market.



Laura Philipp

Laura Philipp (31 years old from Schwäbisch Gmünd Germany) 2018 Ironman Barcelona winner with a new course record and new German long-distance record! 2017 Bronze Medalist at the Ironman 70.3 World Championships as well as at the XTERRA World Championships (off-road triathlon). 2016 German Champion and Vice-European Champion in triathlon middle distance. Laura’s talent for triathlon was quickly recognized. In 2012 she became part of the ERDINGER Alkoholfrei Perspective Team and only 3 years later she stepped it up to the Pro Team. We are confident to see a lot more of this amazing lady.



Daniela Sämmler

Daniela Sämmler (30 years old from Darmstadt Germany), 2018 Challenge Roth winner 2018 Ironman Italy winner. In 2017 Daniela took the victory at Ironman Hamburg and in 2015 at Ironman Mallorca. Part of the Team ERDINGER Alkoholfrei, Sämmler is one of the top ladies in long distance triathlon. With Daniela, Swiss Side is adding a strong cyclist to the pro team. Swiss Side will be engaging the entire engineering team's aero knowledge from Formula 1 racing, to ensure she has even faster bike-splits in the future. With the ticket for Kona 2019 in hand, the preparations for the Ironman Wold Championship race already started! 



Julia Gajer

Julia Gajer (36 years old from Hannover Germany), 2016 Ironman North American Champion and 2015 Ironman Vice-European Champion. Julia represents the Team ERDINGER Alkoholfrei. Aiming for the Ironman World Championship podium in Kona, Swiss Side works closely with her to aerodynamically optimize her entire bike-rider system in order to reduce drag and save time and power on the bike leg.



Migg Scherrer

Migg Scherrer (44 years old from Gais Switzerland), Xtreme-triathlete and Ultracycler. In 2015/16, Migg competed in multiple Xtreme and ultra distance events across Europe, putting Swiss Side’s products to the ultimate test. In 2017 Migg successfully finished the 2,200km long Race Around Austria, which is Europe's hardest cycling race. At the bikepacking event NAVAD-1000 in 2018, he became the first athlete ever to finish the mountain bike-oriented course with a completely non-suspended cyclocross bike. In the same year, Migg finished fourth at the Race Around Ireland.



Christian Otto

Christian Otto (33 years old from Dresden Germany), one of the leading Olympic distance triathletes in the German 1st League. 2018 he became Xterra European Champion in his age group (30-24 years old). 



Britta Martin

Our original Swiss Side ambassador Britta Martin (40 years old from Hannover Germany, living in Nelson New Zealand), multiple Ironman winner and one of the leading women athletes on the world Ironman pro tour for many years.  



ERDINGER Alkoholfrei Perspective Team

Swiss Side partnered with the highly respected Team ERDINGER Alkoholfrei of Germany. Swiss Side supplies all athletes of the ERDINGER Perspective Team with the aerodynamically optimized Swiss Side wheels, and the members of the community will be able to take advantage of exclusive wheel deals. With Swiss Side’s unmatched aero know-how Swiss Side professional triathlon athletes Andreas & Michael Raelert, Patrick Lange, Julia Gajer, Laura Philipp, Daniels Sämmler and the entire ERDINGER Alkoholfrei family will be chasing best times.


The 2018 ERDINGER Perspective Team includes Fabian Reuter, Anna-Lena Pohl and Fabian Günther.



Nicole & Lothar Leder

Lothar Leder (47 years old from Flörsheim-Dalsheim Germany), won numerous Ironman and finished third at the Ironman World Championships 1997 and 1998. His wife and former triathlete, Nicole Leder (47 years old from Duisburg Germany), won four Ironman long distances in her career. Today, they coach training camps, where our Swiss Side wheels can be tested.
