Aluminium vs Carbon

For Aerodynamics, the choice of materials does not play any role at all. The materials play a major role in the complexity of production and the cost. Metals (mainly aluminium) are much easier and cheaper to produce. Carbon fibre offers benefits in lighter weight and more control on the wheel stiffness characteristics, however, it’s very expensive, with material cost and labour cost. Carbon wheels take a hundred times longer to manufacture than aluminium wheels.
