HADRON³ Ultimate Rear Wheel

Developed for the DECATHLON AG2R LA MONDIALE TEAM, the HADRON² Ultimate 380 wheels are our fastest wheels for steep climbs and a mix of aero and climbing.

Best aero performance in a lightweight all-rounder. The HADRON³ Ultimate 550 offers class-leading aerodynamics in a lower-profile wheel. Designed for maximum versatility with minimum drag, it delivers high performance across varied terrain and wind conditions. Ideal for technical courses and climbing stages where handling and weight matter.

The all-purpose race wheel, deeper, faster, more stable. The 680 is the go-to choice for triathlon, time trials, and high-speed road racing. It combines reduced base drag with outstanding crosswind stability. The result: consistent aerodynamic efficiency, regardless of wind conditions.

Developed for pure speed in non-drafting triathlon and time trials. The HADRON³ Ultimate 850 delivers the lowest drag in the range, without sacrificing stability. Deep-section performance, lightweight construction, and reduced spoke count with DT Swiss 180 Aero hubs and SINC ceramic bearings.

Wheel performance

At Swiss Side, transparency is the fundament of our goal to deliver exceptional value and make you fastest. We share the insights from our wind tunnel testing and extensive research, empowering you with the knowledge to achieve unparalleled speed and efficiency.

DEEPER. WIDER. LIGHTER.

  • New lightweight construction thanks to DT Swiss ‘direct out of the mold finish’ manufacturing method for the Ultimate line, with the spoke count also reduced from 24 to 20 on the front wheel.
(Reduced spokes = less weight and less drag incl. less rotational drag)
  • Hooked-only rim construction
  • No compromise on safety
  • Maximum compatibility with tyre sizes and pressures
  • New Swiss Side specific AERO hubs

HADRON³ Ultimate

The three dimensions of performance

Lower Base Drag

The specially tuned V-Shape profile is more aerodynamic and creates less losses in the airflow. Despite wider rims, with a larger frontal area, the V-Shape profile reduces the ‘base drag’.

Best-in-class handling

The rider’s body is ~70% of the drag of the bike-rider system. Good handling wheels not only save drag themselves, but can save drag on the rider. This is where even bigger savings can be made.

Keeping the rider confidently in the aero position, in gusty wind conditions or on high-speed descents simply makes them faster. So best-in-class handling has and remains a key characteristic of Swiss Side wheels.

‘Dual Performance’ // Wheel-tyre-System Tuning

When some wind is present, the Continental AERO 111 tyres maximise overall performance through enhanced sailing effects and the lowest possible aerodynamic drag, without compromise on handling.

In calm wind conditions or in high-speed time trial riding, where the yaw angle remains low, and the cross-wind aerodynamic performance  / sailing effects play a reduced role, riders can switch to lower weight and lower rolling resistance tyres (e.g. Continental GP5000 TT TR) for unmatched efficiency.

Technical Development Paper

Get to know more about the performance of our HADRON³ Ultimate and HADRON³ Classic wheels.

Front wheel aero drag performance with crosswind

  • X axis: Crosswind at different degrees. The degree to which the wind arrives from the left or right side is defined in degrees as the Crosswind (yaw) angle [°]. The negative numbers represent the degrees the wind is coming from the left side, the positive numbers represent the degrees the wind is coming from the right side.
  • Y axis: Aero Drag measured in watts
  • Base drag: Defined by Swiss Side at 15 Watts, it is not a standard
  • Thrust: Negative drag
  • Sailing effect: The effect describes a “push” forward which happens when the wind comes from the side = crosswind.
  • We compared different rim depths of the Swiss Side HADRON² and HADRON³ front cycling wheels: HADRON² 38mm (blue), HADRON³ 55mm (green), HADRON³ 68mm (yellow), and HADRON³ 85mm (grey).

Front wheel aero stability with crosswind

  • X axis: Crosswind at different degrees = Crosswind (yaw) angle [°]. The negative numbers represent the degrees the wind is coming from the left side, the positive numbers represent the degrees the wind is coming from the right side.
  • Y axis: Steering moment in Newton meter
  • The front wheel steering moment is the force that a cyclist feels in the handlebars when crosswinds hit the front wheel. Through our research and extensive testing, we have determined that the characteristics lead to a stable and confident feeling from the front wheel. The graph shows a linear steering moment curve without sudden change at the stall point. The stall point is when the wind angle is too high, and the airflow can no longer stay attached to the wheel.
  • We compared different rim depths of the Swiss Side HADRON² and HADRON³ front cycling wheels: HADRON² 38mm (blue), HADRON³ 55mm (green), HADRON³ 68mm (yellow), and HADRON³ 85mm (grey).
